We should point out that top comedy movies are extremely subjective, and we’re sure there will be many people who disagree with our list.
The movie that launched a thousand memes, the year’s surprise breakout hit was also packed with belly laughs. It may not have ended up being as big of commercial success as it deserved to be, but it’s clear that this modern retelling of The Hangover did exactly what it set out to do – inspire women everywhere to get over their hang-ups and just laugh at crap men do.
2. 21 Jump Street
An unexpected delight! We thought we had seen everything the genre had to offer, but these two cops going undercover in high school added an entirely new spin to the buddy cop genre. Jonah Hill was hilarious, and it was awesome seeing Channing Tatum show off his comedic chops.
3. Your Highness
Undoubtedly the most quotable movie of the year, Your Highness had a great balance of crude but sweet humor with lighthearted fantasy action sequences that never failed to keep us laughing. This parody of The Lord Of The Rings is definitely worth checking out for anyone who enjoyed Shaun Of The Dead or Hot Fuzz.
4. The Change-Up
This film may have failed to make the money it needed at the box office, but that doesn’t take away from how funny it was. Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds were perfect together as a pair of work friends who find themselves switching bodies, leading both of them into awkward situations with their family members (played by Leslie Mann and Olivia Wilde, respectively).
5. Horrible Bosses
The twist in this movie didn’t really surprise us – we’ve seen it done before in movies like the old David Hasselhoff classic (click here for reference) – but what did impress us was how well each character’s individual action sequences were crafted within this premise. This made for an entertaining ride from beginning to end.
